At this point, the “making the world a better place” slogan has lost its credibility. This was the rallying cry of progressive elites for a while, but does anyone take it seriously at this point?
The Silicon Valley HBO show lampooned that ten years ago—that nobody who claims to make the world a better place actually does. And they don’t really even want to make the world a better place. It’s just something they say to give their narcissistic bullshit actions some meaning.
So the only option available is to wish the world well and to want to make the world a better place. But that option no longer makes any sense. But what if you do not want to make the world a better place? What if you do not wish the world well? What if you want to make the world worse instead?
“Making the world a better place” is over. What can replace it? Seems to me there are two options—making the world worse, or keeping it the same.
It seems to me like a lot of people are already doing the keeping the world the same thing. That’s what neoliberal capitalism is all about—keeping things the same. There’s lots of talk about changing or improving the world, raising awareness, opening doors, blah blah blah, making the world a better place, but it’s all fake, just a way of keeping things the same. I think everyone knows that by now.
So making the world a better place is fake and discredited, and keeping things the same requires a ton of propaganda and effort, and it only benefits a small number of people who actually like the way the world is now. Only those who are currently benefiting from the inequality and misery of social relations want to keep things the same. Most people do not want things to be the same.
So the other option is to try to make the world worse. Making the world worse seems a lot easier, like it requires fewer resources, it’s more honest, and more popular. And like anyone can do it. You don’t need any special knowledge or connections. You can go outside today and make the world a little bit worse, all by yourself. And you probably have a good instinct on your own of how to do it. But can you really make the world any better today by yourself? Seems like too big of a task. How would you even begin? And it also seems like it would require a big group effort to even get it started.
One of the worst things about life today is that young men have nothing to look forward to. The world as it is has nothing for them. The making the world a better place thing is not a solid foundation, and I think young men can sense that. But they also don’t want things to stay the same, because things today are not good for them. So if making the world worse is offered as an alternative, I think that could cure a lot of alienation and hopelessness and so on that is so rampant today. Making the world a worse place should be treated as a serious option and explored thoroughly.
So to summarize—making the world a better place is fake and over; keeping the world the same only benefits the small group of elites who are winning from the current situation; making the world worse wins by default.
Dialectics strikes again
Maybe the key lies in making the world worse *for some people*.
I.e. little "fuck you" acts against the powers that be, just little things that you can get away with.
Also, by keeping the world the same, it's making it worse by the day for regular people anyway.
So the default is actually making the world worse, because "keeping it the same" for the elites equals shittier lives for the overwhelming majority.
